Black Friday Ammo Deals 2026: Good Price Per Round by Caliber

November 3, 2026

Every year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday ammo sales get louder: bigger banners, bigger "% OFF" badges, more "limited time" countdown clocks. But a 30% discount off an inflated price can still cost more per round than a boring everyday listing. The only way to know if a Black Friday ammo deal is actually good is to compare it to a real, recent benchmark price — not the sticker price next to it.

That's what this page is. On November 1, 2026, we checked real listings across multiple retailers for ten popular calibers and calculated the true price per round (cost ÷ number of rounds, shipping and codes included where noted). Keep this page open while you shop over Black Friday weekend (Nov 27) and Cyber Monday (Nov 30). If a deal beats our number, it's worth considering. If it doesn't, it's probably just a sale on an ammo brand that was marked up to begin with.

How to use this page

Price per round (sometimes written "cpr" or "¢/rd") is the only number that matters when comparing ammo deals — not the box price, not the percent off, not the case size. A 1,000-round case for $350 is 35¢ a round; a 50-round box for $20 is 40¢ a round, even though the box looks cheaper on the shelf.

  • Always include shipping. Ammo is heavy and sometimes classified as hazmat, so "free shipping" thresholds and flat hazmat fees can swing your real cost per round by several cents.
  • Apply the code before you compare. Several of our benchmark prices below only hit that number after a checkout code (we list the code where one was used).
  • Compare against our Nov 1 benchmark, not the "was" price on the sale page. Retailers can inflate a "regular price" to make a discount look bigger. Our numbers were pulled from live listings, not advertised "compare at" prices.

Caliber notes

9mm

Bulk 9mm practice ammo was running in the mid-20s cents per round on Nov 1, with Maxxtech 124gr FMJ at 24.9¢ (True Shot, with code GUNDEALS10) the best of the bunch. Magtech 115gr FMJ was close behind at 25.0¢ (same code, True Shot), and CCI Blazer Brass 115gr came in at 25.6¢ with code DG5 at Natchez. Anything at or under the mid-20s on a 1,000-round case is a legitimate Black Friday price for 9mm.

5.56/.223

PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ hit 43.3¢ a round at True Shot with code GUNDEALS10. Wideners' own American Quality .223 55gr was nearly identical at 43.9¢ for a 250-round box ($109.85) — see the Wideners .223/5.56 ammo page for current listings. Treat low-to-mid 40s cents per round as the number to beat this caliber.

.22 LR

Rimfire stayed cheap: Winchester USA 36gr HP was 6.7¢ a round in a 555-count box from Sportsman Fulfillment, and Armscor 36gr HP in bulk 5,000-round cases was 7.0¢ at Wideners' .22 LR page. Anything under 7–8¢ a round for plinking-grade .22 LR counts as a solid deal.

12 gauge

Target loads and defensive buckshot live in very different price brackets, so compare like with like. Federal Top Gun 1-⅛ oz #8 target loads were 35.1¢ a round on sale at Wideners, while Fiocchi Defense Dynamics #1 buckshot ran 42.5¢ a round at The Gun Shop USA. Don't judge a buckshot sale against a target-load benchmark, or vice versa.

.45 ACP

Sellier & Bellot 230gr FMJ dropped to 38.0¢ a round on sale at Wideners, a reasonable practice-ammo benchmark for the caliber. For carry/defensive loads, Federal LE Hydra-Shok 230gr was 48.0¢ a round in a 50-count box from Behind The Line Supply — defensive ammo almost always costs more per round than ball ammo, and that's normal.

.380 ACP

Tula steel-case 95gr FMJ was the cheapest practice option at 30.3¢ a round from Wideners. On the defensive side, Browning X-Point 95gr JHP ran 37.0¢ a round in a 1,000-round case from BH Ammo — a notably low price for a hollow-point in this caliber, worth watching for a repeat over Black Friday weekend.

.308 Win

PMC 147gr FMJ-BT brass-case ammo was 88.0¢ a round on sale at Wideners. Rifle calibers cost meaningfully more per round than pistol calibers, so don't expect .308 to ever approach 9mm-style pricing — use this number as your own caliber's baseline instead.

7.62x39

Steel-case Tela Impex 124gr FMJ was 54.5¢ a round on sale, while brass-case Belom 123gr FMJ ran 68.7¢ a round, both at Wideners. Wideners notes that the steel-case bullets in this caliber are magnetic and are banned at many indoor and some outdoor ranges — check your range's rules before buying a case on a Black Friday discount.

6.5 Creedmoor

American Quality "Bolt Gun" 140gr BTHP was 89.9¢ a round on sale at Wideners. This is a precision-oriented caliber, so prices run higher than other rifle rounds; treat anything near or under 90¢ a round for a quality BTHP load as a fair Black Friday price.

Defensive ammo (9mm example)

Carry ammo is its own category and shouldn't be compared to practice-ammo benchmarks. On Nov 1, Winchester Defender 147gr PDX1 was 50.0¢ a round (100-count, BH Ammo) and Federal HST 147gr was 56.0¢ a round (50-count, KyGunCo). If you carry daily, buy a few boxes of premium defensive ammo even if it costs more per round than your range ammo — see our guide on choosing defensive ammo for your carry gun for how to pick a load.

Black Friday ammo buying tips

  • Buy by the case, not the box. Price per round almost always drops as quantity goes up. See buying bulk ammo the smart way for how to size a case purchase to your actual shooting habits.
  • Watch free-shipping thresholds. Many retailers waive shipping above a dollar amount or case count — sometimes that's the real discount, not the item price.
  • Stack checkout codes. Several of this year's benchmark prices only hit their low number after a code like GUNDEALS10 was applied. Always check for an active code before buying.
  • Buy what your gun actually runs reliably. A record-low price per round on steel-case or bulk ammo isn't a deal if your firearm doesn't cycle it well.
  • Don't fall for urgency labels alone. "Limited time," "today only," and countdown timers are marketing, not proof of a good price. Compare the actual cpr against this benchmark before you click buy.
  • Check hazmat and return rules before ordering. Ammo often ships with a separate hazmat fee, and most retailers won't accept opened-ammo returns. Confirm shipping restrictions for your state before checkout.

Where to find the current deal

We update our daily deals page every day through Cyber Monday (Nov 30), tracking live prices per round across calibers so you don't have to dig through sale banners yourself. Bookmark it, check it Thanksgiving morning, and check it again Cyber Monday — the best price per round on a given caliber often changes retailer by retailer over the weekend.

FAQ

Is Black Friday really the cheapest time to buy ammo?
Often, yes — retailers tend to release stronger codes and free-shipping offers that weekend. But it's not guaranteed for every caliber or every store. Use this Nov 1 benchmark to check that whatever you're looking at is actually a discount, not just a sale label.

What's a good price per round for 9mm?
Based on Nov 1, 2026 data, mid-20s cents per round for a 1,000-round case of practice FMJ ammo is a solid, verified price point. Anything noticeably above that on Black Friday isn't much of a deal.

Should I buy steel case to save money?
Steel-case ammo is sometimes cheaper per round than brass, as shown in the .380 and 7.62x39 comparisons above, but not always by much, and many ranges restrict or ban it (particularly magnetic steel-core bullets). Check your range's policy before buying a case.

How much ammo should I buy at once?
Buy what you'll realistically shoot and can store safely — a great price per round isn't a bargain if the ammo sits unused or gets stored improperly. See buying bulk ammo the smart way and cost per round: the only ammo math you need for help sizing a purchase.

Storage and legal reminder

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place, locked and out of reach of children. Before placing a Black Friday order, confirm your state and local laws around ammunition purchase quantities, age requirements, and shipping restrictions — these vary by state and sometimes by city. AmmoWinner does not sell, ship, or list armor-piercing, tracer, incendiary, or steel-penetrator ammunition, and we don't publish reloading recipes, load data, explosive-target instructions, or firearm modification guidance. Shop safely, shop legally, and compare every "deal" against real numbers before you buy.
